Exxcellence in Clinical Research Course
Sponsored by: The Foundation for Exxcellence in Women's Health, Inc.
The Foundation for Exxcellence in Women's Health is pleased to offer Exxcellence in Clinical Research. This is the same highly renowned course in research methods and evidence-based medicine taught since 1987.
The course is intended for and offered to current Ob/Gyn Fellows and Ob/Gyn Junior Faculty. Residents are not eligible.
2019 Course Update:
For more than 30 years, our esteemed course professors, Drs. David A. Grimes and Kenneth F. Schulz have helped thousands of medical professionals learn to understand and conduct clinical research. To estimate the impact they have had on research and scholarship in women's health is nearly impossible, but we agree it's staggering. Part of the reason for the incredible success of the Exxcellence in Clinical Research course, as many of you have experienced, is their unique style, engaging approach, and unwavering devotion to their craft and to the ACOG Fellows and Junior Faculty they've taught.
And so with both a sadness and a shared sense of joy and appreciation, we want to let you know that Drs. Grimes and Schulz are retiring from teaching our course.
As we congratulate and thank our professors for all they've accomplished, The Foundation for Exxcellence in Women's Health is using 2019 to restructure our course offering. As a result, we will not be offering the Exxcellence in Clinical Research Course this year. We look forward to announcing a new and exciting offering.
We are grateful for the incredible continued interest in a dedicated course, and for the many inquiries we have received. Stay tuned for continued Exxcellence!

Attendance Policy & Restrictions:
Our course is structured to create a very unique and highly effective learning experience and environment. The course begins early each day, and most days runs well into the evening and includes group dinners. Even when we’re outside of the classroom setting, networking, team‐building and social opportunities are provided which increase the learning and retention, and allow participants to form collaborative friendships and connections that last a lifetime. First, you will have no distractions during the week, and second, group dynamics work far better. You will develop some wonderful professional and personal relationships during our week together.
Because of the structure and format, our policies generally prohibit anyone not registered for the course from being on site. With the exception of breastfeeding/nursing moms as outlined below, no other family members, children, significant others, friends or pets are allowed. If you anticipate that clinical duties, attendance at a medical meeting, family obligations, pregnancy complications, child/infant care concerns, or being away from your family and/or children will conflict with a specific course, please do not apply for those course dates. Instead, please identify another course when you can devote your full attention to it. Keep in mind the course is open to both Ob/Gyn Fellows and Junior Faculty. This provides the flexibility over several years to attend and benefit from the course when it’s best for YOU.
Exception: Breastfeeding/Nursing Moms. The Foundation for Exxcellence in Women’s Health strongly supports breastfeeding and calls upon healthcare professionals and institutions to embrace and support women choosing to breastfeed their infants. We understand the incredible demands on today’s working moms, and how difficult it is to be away from your baby for extended periods, particularly as it relates to breast milk production and volume. Women currently breastfeeding are welcome at our courses, as are their nursing infants and caregivers as necessary. Please note that while you are at the course, you will be expected to devote your full attention to the course, and attend all scheduled events alone.
As part of our accommodation, a private room near the classroom is available for mothers to pump breast milk. Many mothers who do not bring their infant either ship their milk home or carry it home upon completion of the course. This arrangement has worked very well over the several decades this course has been conducted. If you choose to ship your breast milk, please coordinate in advance with the course venue to understand the logistics involved and any special shipping requirements.
Cancellation & Refund Policy:
Once we verify and reserve your place in a course, it can be very difficult to fill any cancellations. When you are formally accepted for a course, The Foundation becomes obligated to the hotel for your room reservation. Tuition will only be refunded in case of a verifiable emergency, and will be subject to a cancellation charge. Seats in our courses are limited. In fairness to the many who apply, please keep this in mind when registering
