Our History

The Foundation for Exxcellence in Women’s Health, Inc. was originally founded by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG) in 2004 to improve women's health through innovations in education, research, and technology.  The word "care" was proactively dropped from the name to further the mission of more comprehensively impacting all of women's health and not just their health care.  Today we are known as The Foundation for Exxcellence in Women's Health.

The double XX in the name originally signified the chromosomal make-up of a female.  Over time, the definition and self-identification of a woman has evolved.  And so, too, has the XX Foundation.  Today, the XX in our name reminds each of us that we are 'doubly' committed to our mission of excellence in women’s health.

The Foundation for Exxcellence in Women’s Health, an independent, not-for-profit organization, continues and furthers our mission by bringing  Ob/Gyn physicians information and resources they can use to impact care for women. By helping women stay healthy, they are also strengthening and supporting America’s families and communities.

The Exxcellence Foundation serves hundreds of young physicians in Ob/Gyn residency and fellowship programs and more than 43,000 obstetrician-gynecologists certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
